We are here to help lawyers find alternative careers. For many, that means finding a career out side the law. For others, that means helping find a more satisfying legal career.
Lawyers making career changes face some complex challenges. Lawyers make many business professionals nervous. Many business professionals don't really understand the legal profession, so misconceptions about lawyers abound.
As someone who's made a successful transition out of the law, I am in a good position to guide you through your journey to a new career.
HOW DO WE WORK?
Everyone starts with a full day workshop at the CIC, 4220 Duncan Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110. (We will likely hold events in other cities later this year, though.) The content covered in the workshop will get you STARTED on a career transition, but there is simply too much to cover in one day. So, you also get six (6) one-on-one coaching sessions. Read on for an outline of the workshop and coaching sessions!
Workshop
- Why do we want to make a change?
- What are the drivers for the desire to change?
- Do we want to stay in the law but would rather be in a different type of practice?
- Financial considerations - what are reasonable salary expectations?
- Skills needed to make a successful transition
- Change and stress - how to manage both
- Mechanics of a successful career transition
- Identify core values
- Identify strengths
- How to build a professional brand and brand statement
- How and where to research alternative careers, business disciplines, and job roles
- The basics of social media profiles
- Key technology tools to help make a transition
- The basics of networking
That's a lot to cover, but we will get it done in one day. But, there are four more critical topics to cover, and we cover those topics in one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Networking - how to incorporate social media and other tools into your efforts. We will also cover the "rules of the road" for effective and successful networking.
- Social media - you WILL need an effective LinkedIn profile, and we will work on yours in detail over the course of one coaching session. We will also explain the differences between your resume and LinkedIn profile.
- Resume - every person has individualized needs related to their resume. Each person's resume must match your brand to a specific job opening. So, we will incorporate your strengths and values into your resume to help you make the best possible connection between what you offer and what an employer needs.
- Interviewing - this is another area where each person has individualized needs. We will make sure you know HOW TO PREPARE for each interview.
- That leaves two (2) coaching sessions as wild cards for you to pick the topics or ask questions that arise during your transition efforts.
